Why we did this thing: Our PodVenture

You’re catching a glimpse of my “very real” desktop. And yes, it says: I drive topless. But that is because I have a convertible, DIRTY BIRDS.

You’re catching a glimpse of my “very real” desktop. And yes, it says: I drive topless. But that is because I have a convertible, DIRTY BIRDS.

So here’s the backstory. We know nothing about producing a podcast, and that is what makes it great.

Neither Pam nor myself ever had a career in broadcasting, though we danced around it in some unique ways. Pam was a comedienne in LA for some time. This means that she’s no stranger to the microphone, and her timing is impeccable.

I have a deep history in both marketing and content. I consider myself a digital OG—beginning that phase of my career in 1998. As former feature writer, I understand the heart of a story—and what questions should be asked to suss that out.

Also, we were both in real estate. We went into this line of work with the same agenda: wanting to help people. To make an impact on something so meaningful. We both had poor experiences with agents in the past. (Pam’s was in Fredericksburg, and mine was in Richmond.)

After all the stress and heartburn we endured, we vowed that no one else should go through what we did. So we manned up and made it a career. And we can definitely say experiencing the joy from our clients is the reason we go over and beyond. But it wasn’t enough to experience such positivity. We wanted to show folks that people do understand the humanity behind the business.

Here we were, both in real estate, longing to show the emotional side of what can be seen as a very transitional relationship.

Even though real estate can seem all about the numbers, it’s not. Truly, it’s about the moments. The families that get a new roof over their heads. The first-time homebuyer who gets to fulfill a dream. Or the couple who makes a big move to achieve their new version of life. It’s about “rightsizing” and new builds. It’s about rehabs and refreshes.

But most of all, it’s about you.

We hope you enjoy—and subscribe to—Obsessed with Homes. (You can find it on Stitcher, Spotify, and soon, Apple Podcasts.)
